[Tutorial] How to Update Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean custom ROM firmware

For those who are already have samsung Galaxy S4 on hand, we try to give something new for you. On this article i will explain about updating the device to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. This is for the one who want to try something different for the device. The Nightly build of CM10.2 custom ROM has been made by the members of a forum.

Note:

What you need to prepare:
  1. A rooted Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 and a PC
  2. Backup all personal data on your phone to make sure you have a copy of your personal data (e.g., contacts, SMS, MMS, Internet settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and the like) in case the procedure in this guide erases such data. You may skip this step.
  3. On both devices computer and handset uninstall or temporarily deactivate the antivirus protection, or any other security protection.
  4. Enable USB debugging option on your device or else you will not be able to properly connect your phone with the computer. By going to “Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging” and check the last option.
  5. Make sure your device has at least 80% of phone battery charge.

Follow the steps below:
  1. Use the link from here and download the CM10.2 package for the SGS4 I9505 on your computer. 
  2. Save the update on desktop and don’t unzip the package.
  3. Then, place the downloaded file on your phone’s SD card.
  4. In order to transfer the firmware, first connect your device with the computer via USB cable.
  5. Then, just drag and drop the update from desktop to your phone’s SD card.
  6. Disconnect the devices by unplugging the USB cord.
  7. Turn off your S4.
  8. Reboot in recovery mode -> press and hold volume up, home and power buttons at the same time until your device enters in recovery.
  9. Wipe the system: select “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvick cache”.
  10. Return: select “+++go back+++”.
  11. And select the update file by choosing: “install zip from SD card” and “choose zip from SD card”.
  12. Pick the CM10.2 file and flash the same on your phone.
  13. Finally, return to main menu of recovery and select “reboot system now”.
  14. Note: in case your SGS4 gets stuck in a boot loop, try to reach recovery once more and from there this time select “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”. Then reboot the handset into Android as everything should be working as expected.
  15. Note 2: if the first boot takes longer than usual, don’t panic as there is nothing wrong with your smartphone.
